BPO companies such as Call Center companies here in the Philippines played a huge factor during the recession era. Because of the job they were able to offer to people. It helped a lot for those who where unemployed.

Customer retention is important in every climate, not just recessions. Unfortunately businesses only pay more attention to the customers in recessions as the laws of supply and demand are skewed in recessions. The companies that genuinely care about customers, care about them in every economic climate.
